No Bible, No Breakfast
The prophet Jeremiah wrote, "Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart," (Jeremiah 15:16a). Years later, the Lord Jesus Christ told the devil that "Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God" (Matthew 4:4). Jeremiah said that he ate, or consumed, God's Word as if it was food and God's Word brought joy to his life. Jeremiah came to understand the truth that Jesus spoke later - God's Word sustains us and brings joy to our lives. Bread is important to the physical body, but God's Bread is much more important to us because we will live spiritually long after our bodies return to dust. Therefore, I would like to lead the church to read through the Bible in 2010. The campaign is called "No Bible, No Breakfast" because I would like to encourage you to make God's Word as much of a priority as you do daily food. Just think what God could do with a church that was committed to reading His Word and made it more of a priority than daily food. In order to help us accomplish this as a church, I have ordered daily devotionals for every family and individual in the church that will be available at the end of December. The devotionals will contain a reading plan for everyone to follow, as well as questions for each day's reading that you use for your family devotions. The readings will consist of three chapters Monday-Saturday and five chapters on Sunday, which should take the average reader no more than 30 minutes to read. Make the commitment right now to read your Bible through with the rest of the church in 2010. No Bible, No Breakfast! This is our battle cry in 2010.
